The Frida Icelandic Riding Club (FIRC), as an organization, does not sponsor trail rides.  All such activities are organized by members for their enjoyment and for the benefit of other club members.  It is the responsibility of members who organize rides to take whatever steps they believe necessary to protect themselves from legal action in case of injury to someone or to a horse during the ride.

The FIRC suggests that ride leaders ask each rider to sign a form similar to the one found in this section.  It should be pointed out, however, that states in the club region have differing legal requirements.  Members should ensure that the form they use meets the legal requirements of their states for a waiver of liability.

Sample Release and Waiver of Liability Form

I am aware that horseback riding poses potentially serious risks of injury or death to its participants and that my horse or I may be injured or die as a result of my negligence, the negligence of others, or through no fault of mine or anyone else, because of the nature of the activity in which I am going to be engaged.  I also understand that horses, even the most well trained and sure footed, can become unpredictable and difficult to control, and no one can foresee an equine's reaction to bee stings, excitement, weather conditions, sound, movements, objects, persons, animals, and the group dynamics of such situations.  I further understand that unexpected trail impediments can present danger. 

By signing this release and waiver, I understand that I am giving up (waiving and releasing) any right I may have to sue or to make any subsequent claim against the Frida Icelandic Riding Club, the organizers of the ride, any ride leaders, helpers, their families or any private property owners or park land authorities on whose property the ride crosses.
